If you’re a Divi user, you’ve likely encountered the frustrating issue of the Divi Visual Builder not loading. It’s one of the most common issues in Divi with some easy solutions.Â
In this blog post, we will explain what exactly causes the Divi Builder not loading issues and how you can fix them quickly and easily.
Let’s get started!
1. Check Server Settings
To troubleshoot, first, we have to check the current server settings to ensure that they match the minimum Divi requirements.
To check this, navigate to Divi > Support Center to check your server settings
Click the below ‘Show Full Report’, which will show you a comprehensive list of server status.
Here, the green dots are for ‘good to go’ and red dots will displayed if you have any issues.
The most common issue is the PHP limits that cause your Divi visual builder not loading problem. However, make sure that you meet the right standards for the following:
- Update your PHP Version to 7.4 minimum (8.2+ recommended).
- PHP memory_limit: 256M
- PHP max_execution_time: 300
- WordPress memory_limit: 128M
Note: These server settings vary depending on your hosting company, even though some hosting providers will allow you to edit these PHP variables. Either you can use some file manager plugin that can accelerate the potential to edit these values.
2. Make Sure the WordPress & Divi are Up-to-date
Next, you should check the available updates for both WordPress and Divi. Most of the time, a product update can fix the issues we are suffering from. Plus, having an update lets you enjoy all the new benefits of their new version.
Now, to check the updates –
- For WordPress: go to WordPress dashboard > Updates. If there is any update available, do it.
- For Divi: go to WordPress dashboard > Appearance > Themes. If Divi update is available, click ‘Update now’ to continue.
If you are using Divi Builder individually as a plugin. You can check updates from there; simply go to the WordPress dashboard > Plugins. If an update is available, make it.
3. Check For Plugins Conflict
If you’re still facing the Divi Builder not loading problem, one possible cause could be a conflict with other plugins on your WordPress website. This problem can occur in two situations: either you are using an outdated plugin, or there is an incompatible Divi plugin.
Now, to check for plugin conflicts, follow these steps:
- Deactivate all plugins: Go to your WordPress dashboard’s “Plugins” section and click “Installed Plugins.” Select all plugins and choose the “Deactivate” option from the bulk actions dropdown. This will temporarily disable all plugins on your site.
- Check whether Divi Builder is working: After deactivating the plugins, try reaccessing the Divi Builder. If it loads without issues, it confirms that a plugin conflict was causing the problem.
- Activate plugins one by one: Start activating the plugins one by one, and after activating each plugin, check if the Divi Builder is still loading correctly. This way, you can identify the specific plugin that is causing the conflict.
- Identify and resolve the conflict: If you reencounter the issue after activating a particular plugin, you have likely found the conflicting plugin. You can troubleshoot the conflicting plugin by updating it to the latest version, contacting the developer for support, or finding an alternative plugin with similar functionality.
4. Clear All Cache Data
Caching is a very complex set of systems that can easily cause conflicts between scripts, which indicates that Divi Builder failed to load. Clearing the cache can be another solution.
To troubleshoot caching issues effectively, follow these steps.
Disable Static CSS
Head over to Divi > Theme Options > Builder > Advanced > Static CSS File Generation > Disable.
Be sure to save and check to see if your issue is fixed or not. However, you can enable this again when you are done working on your site.
Clean Browser Cache
Browsers generate additional caches to store website files locally on your computer. Clearing these caches will help you remove these stored files and information, forcing the browser to fetch fresh data from websites.
It also improves your browser performance, but sometimes, this leads to issues when cache files get a bit out of date.
Clean Server/CDN Cache
Your server cache needs to be clean, too. It saves the data from the cached website on the server. Typically, this can be done using a content delivery network (CDN), but you can do this through the hosting admin panel or the cPanel cache-clearing process also.
For example, if you are using Kinsta hosting, you can clear the cache by clicking the ‘Clean CDN’ button.
In Cloudways, you have to just click on ‘Purge’ to remove the server cache.
Or, if you use a hosting admin panel such as cPanel then go to the LiteSpeed Web Cache Manager > Flush LSCache > Flush All
5. Clear the Site Data
Another possible fix to ‘Divi Builder not working issues’ is to clear the site data. If clearing the cache data doesn’t work, you can try this as an alternative.
Nowadays, with modern browsers, you can store all types of data on your computer or device, including session storage, cookies, cache, etc.
And having these site data may cause errors in your database connection, resulting in the builder not being able to load properly.
You may seen this problem on the Divi builder timeout error also.
Now, to fix this issue –
- Open the Chrome Developer Tools by pressing Ctrl+Shift+I or going to the three dots on the top right of Chrome > More Tools > Developer Tools.
- Then, go to the Application tab > Clear storage and press Clear site data. Keep in mind that this will log you out of the site.
6. Deactivate Caching Plugin
Another plugin conflict can arise due to the caching plugin. So least you can do is to – temporarily deactivate your caching plugins to fix Divi Builder’s not loading issue.
This occurs because the caching plugins store static versions of your website’s pages, which can sometimes interfere with Divi Builder’s live rendering.
Just deactivate the cache plugin, and hope the Divi page builder will function properly.
7. Enable Safe Mode
Divi includes a feature called ‘Safe Mode’ in its Support Center. This Mode provides a controlled environment to troubleshoot Divi Builder issues and helps pinpoint the root cause of the problem.
Enabling safe mode can temporarily turn off any customizations, scripts, or styles added by third-party plugins or your theme, allowing you to identify if the issue is related to conflicts with other components.
So, once you enabled the safe mode, visit the page where you were experiencing the issue with the Divi Builder. If the problem is resolved, it indicates that there may be a conflict with a plugin or theme customization.
You can then systematically reactivate your plugins and customizations to identify the specific component causing the issue.
Note: Turn off safe mode once you have completed your troubleshooting to restore full functionality and customization to your Divi Builder.
8. Disable Browser Add-Ons
For a high-level look, we recommend changing your browser. An extension or add-on installed on your web browser can sometimes make Divi Builder fail to load. So check the Divi builder website on another browser to see if it runs okay or not.
If it doesn’t run okay, then there might be a problem with the extensions in your usual browser. Disable and check them individually, like the previous ‘3. Check For Plugins Conflict’ method.
